It has activities that nearly everyone can enjoy. There are several corporate sponsored attractions from exotic live animal exhibitions to the calf birthing center. Kids of all ages can enjoy the rides and attractions in the mid-way. There are numerous events in the grandstands. But this fair revolves around the work of 4-H kids throughout the county. The Elkhart County Community Center displays the hard work manifested in static projects from arts, crafts, clothing, models, photography and much more. Livestock barns on the grounds display the projects 4-Her’s have raised. Throughout the fair is livestock and small animal judging. It is an opportunity to see and celebrate the skills of the area youth. Oh, and don’t forget food row!

Monday, Tuesday, agrandstandnd Wednesday continues the concert series with popular country music artists each of those nights. Thursday is all day tractor pulls. The morning has farm stock and the afternoon into the night has the Lucas Oil PPL Tractor & Truck Pull. Friday afternoon and again later in the evening is the professional rodeo. Guide to Fair Parking

mapAs a reminder general parking enters the fairground from Gate 7 on County Road 34 (Monroe Street). This gate takes you to one of the large parking lots where trams will take you to Gate G to enter the fair. Motorcyles can park in special parking near Gate 2. Please be patient, everyone is there to have fun – and that is a lot of people. If you travel Monroe St from Goshen High School, please be considerate of vehicles with special passes that don’t use Gate 7. Often times those passes belong to 4-Hers with livestock that are going to their animals. Please don’t block the gates as you are making your way to the parking area.map-2

This year there is a bonus. An alternate route has been created. Travelling east on County Road 36 (College Avenue) from US Highway 33 (Lincolnway) just across the railroad tracks is a new entrance. Initially designed as a route for emergency vehicles, it will be used for ingress and egress from the general parking lots. This will be a great way to get around the grid lock of County Road 34 (Monroe St) as all the express routes merge into it. If you travel from the southern part of the county or use the County Road 19 (Greene Road) express route then the County Road 36 entrance may be the perfect option.

map-1Wherever you park remember which parking lot you are located. There are signs to identify the lot. Take a picture, use your GPS or the technique that works for you, it will save you grief later.

The Elkhart County 4-H Fair is an incredible experience. Parking and waiting in traffic is not. Plan ahead in order to lessen the frustration of waiting in traffic. If you are stuck keep in mind you will have an incredible time and the wait will be worth it.
